Chainmaille By Bim

I make these Byzantine style Chainmaille bracelets using one of my most original designs — This design is a variation on the ancient and gorgeous Chainmaille pattern named Byzantine. Byzantine was the first pattern I learned, twelve years later I still love making it. Especially when I get to make this special and unique versions I invented many years ago.

The pattern Byzantine was one of the first Chainmaille patterns invented, its origins are not known but it dates back to somewhere near 300 BC which is pretty amazing. Wearing a Byzantine Chainmaille bracelet is like wearing a piece of history.

I made these wonderful Chainmaille earrings using an ancient pattern by the name of Byzantine.

These are no normal Byzantine earrings though: I used three short sections of chain and looped them through the perfect sized ring to let them hang and dance with your every move.

Both of these pieces are very special to me: They’re each made from variations I invented, of the ancient Chainmaille Pattern named Byzantine — The way that I fit a subtle addition of color into each. The perfectly sized Stainless Steel links that frame each ring of color. And perhaps most of all, the detail and complexity of this bracelet as it curves impossibly back and forth.

I have always been intrigued (If not obsessed) with the vast history behind each Chainmaille pattern. Though I love the history behind Chainmaille, I find myself being inspired by nature’s beauty more often than not when I’m designing jewelry: These earrings combine those two passions into a pair of earrings made from metal, take on the feel of something more organic.

I made this matching set of Byzantine Chainmaille jewelry using three of my most popular original earring, necklace, and bracelet designs.

This set of my signature Byzantine Chainmaille designs would be a wonderful way to treat yourself, or to show someone special in your life you really care for them. If you’re giving this set you can rest assured she’ll love opening the perfect little box they arrive in and finding more than a necklace, bracelet, and earrings — A set of finely crafted individual pieces that become more than the sum of their parts when put together in this stunning collection.

I just started offering wonderful gift boxes with all the work I sell in my Etsy store. It’s the little things.
Every item I sell will arrive promptly, packaged in a quality padded mailer, and neatly resting in one of my beautifully hand-stamped jewelry boxes. Wether you’re giving the item as a gift or treating yourself, you’ll love the way I present my works of art.

My Story - In Short

I gave myself the name Bim when I was learning how to talk. As a redheaded, diaper-clad musically curious three year old. I had a knack for bashing on pots and pans on the kitchen floor each morning.

After sufficiently awakening my parents, my days would stroll on. A hearty Lego session with any one of my three older siblings in the Eugene Oregon rain would round out a good afternoon. Next, maybe some drawing in the basement craft room I loved so much. Yep, I’d say a name, subconsciously borrowed from a Dr. Seuss book, fits me just perfect.

Now that we’re to the third paragraph and I’m still only three or four years old. Maybe you’re thinking — How long is this guy gonna take to get to the part about making Chainmaille? Good point.

Skipping past a blend of homeschooling and being kicked out of a few shockingly accepting alternative learning jails. I’m nine years old. Spending most of my time trying to hangout with my big brother’s impossibly cool fourteen year old friends. How is it that everything they do is exactly what I want to do the most in the whole world?

One of those friends I was craning my neck up to, made metal fabric armor — There’s nothing else in my single digit-aged mind. I force him to teach me how to make this amazing stuff: Chainmaille. Though my hands are too small for the old junk-pliers he offers me I finish my first shirt by age ten. That summer I juried into the Eugene Saturday Market as the youngest vender in their 30 year history at the time.

This is a classic Box Chain Chainmaille necklace. This necklace is special though: I made it from the extremely thin sized 22 gauge wire, the finished diameter of this chainmaille necklace is an amazingly slender 1/16 on an inch. To my knowledge, it is the thinnest handmade Box Chain Chainmaille necklace in the world today. Sure I’m proud.
